Songs have the power to change moods, minds, hearts, and even cultures.
That is, if people ever hear them.
What keeps people from hearing and sharing songs?
How do we reach more people with our music?
We invite them in. We make songs that people subconsciously want and expect to hear. It’s possible our songs are not accessible to people who don’t know us personally and the way we think. Learning and sticking to the conventions of contemporary songwriting is not creative surrender. It is a discipline, and more importantly, it’s what listeners expect. What’s more, it’s a discipline that will keep us sharp and ready to respond to inspiration, finishing our songs and doing justice to the muse that inspired it.
